Happy Halloween!

After the Trunk or Treat Saturday night. I decided to leave my companion buckled into the passenger seat for the past few days.
It was HILARIOUS when the guy who took my $ at the McDonalds drive thru today, jumped and gave a little girly scream! Hope I didn't scare the poor boy too much, but it was AWESOME!!! I hope that you all have a safe and spooktacular Halloween!

2010 Christmas Greeting

I hope that you are all enjoying the holiday season this year. It is REALLY hectic around here (a REAL CIRCUS) with so many little ones, but I would not have it any other way. I wish all my friends out in blog land happiness and joy amid your own chaos. Let's enjoy the ride together!

Where's Waldo?

Tonight my daughter Kelli and I dressed up for our church's youth group game of "Where's Waldo?". We had on our fake bums and dressed "down". When we entered the mall, we thought that everyone would stare at us. Only a few did...and no one in the kiosks asked us if we wanted to try their hand lotion or buy a crystal studded hair barrette. It was weird.
I drank enough pop to sufficiently burp while I talked to the kids when they "found" us. It was fun to see their shocked expressions. ha-ha

Food, Inc.

I watched the movie Food, Inc. last night. WOW! My family has been trying to eat more healthy lately and for me the statement "ignorance is bliss" (on the subject of eating) was the position I took for a long time. In the last year I have learned more and the statement "knowledge is power" is taking over. It's time for a change...for me personally and for the food industry.

That's my two cents for today.

This is my "Kitchen Santa" collection. The middle Santa is from my childhood. My Dad managed an AJ Bayless store and He got to keep this velvet CokaCola Santa. I have also collected vintage Santa mugs for a while. I only displayed a few this year. I just haven't gotten into the "real" decorating mood. I just cringe thinking about putting it all away, weird state of mind I know. Maybe it's just a weird time right now with the economy and all. Do any of you feel this way , just this year, for some reason?

Ready for a WEIRD story?!!!

So my Mom was going over all these old photos from my Grandma Beger's and telling me the "who, what and where's" last Sunday and we came across this photo of some of my Grandma's work associates. Anyway, the gal seated who is smiling into the camera (and the one next to her) were her friends also). So this gal had a "knob", a "little bump" on her forehead forever. Well, one day it started bothering her so she picked at it. And a small hair kind of came to the surface. Well, as She pulled at the hair to pluck it out, and it just started pulling out longer and longer. The hair was just a little over 12 inches long till it reached its end and was able to be plucked out!!!!!

That "knob" had been an ingrown hair follicle all that time! CRAZY!

(Did your stomach turn a bit and your right eyelid unconsciously flutter as you thought about that hair coming out like mine did?!!!)

((I'm going to go right now and look in the mirror to see if I have any "knobs"...))

(((I can't get that hair out of my mind! I need to go watch some "mindless" TV for a while, that usually does it. I don't think singing a hymn to myself would work this time....)))

Robots for Saturday...in the making.

This in one of the "Robots" I'm making for the decorations and background for "photo shoots" for my baby girl's birthday party this Saturday. The head is the globe we use at Halloween for the fortune teller. the "feet" is the packaging for some "baby bottle nipples" that were on clearance for 25 cents . I used one nipple for the "eye" on the globe. I went to the $1 store for everything. The back of the robot is also packaging from a toy gun that I sprayed silver for my husband's costume. (I'll show you when I get that part done). Devan planned the Space Age themed party. It's her 22nd birthday, and there are no signs of limiting the birthday party experience for this girl yet. (I just don't know where she gets it.) She asked if she could have the party at my house, so naturally, ideas for decorating ideas stormed in my head.

Sometimes, the creative process is a blessing and a curse to me, as once I get some inspiration, I can not stop thinking about the possibilities to make the event, object, whatever out of my mind. I loose sleep and the only thing that gets those creative waves out of my mind so that it can rest is the old "Andy Griffith" shows (in black and white only, please, when the show went to color, the magic was gone).... ANYWAY, as I work on "whatever", the closer I get to the finish line, I have to start editing because of cost, time, etc. and it is always a little disappointing for me that the full vision did not really come through.

Although, the real enjoyment is in the process... (The brain turning over and over in trying to find a solution to a problem, or one thought leading to another, turning into a fabulous idea that wouldn't have ever come out at the onset in the creative process.) Sometimes I think it would be nice to be "normal" - no need for all this energy taken away from..Oh reading a good book, or cleaning the house, or very important...exercise.

So, I am constantly in search of keeping BALANCE in my life, tee tottering between what makes me blissful and what needs to be accomplished (general living stuff). And in the end, the two sides of living ARE where real JOY sets in. I am never truly happy when I only "make stuff", I need to keep things organized, clean and allow my brain to acquire the wonderful knowledge that one finds in all those great books that are available. And when I exercise, I feel better about myself as I feel like I am somewhat self disciplined. In the end, Life is good.

Unclaimed Sunglasses

5 pairs of sunglasses go unclaimed. Where did they come from? Who is going to get multiple wrinkles from squinting in the Arizona sun? Are these sunglasses owned by 5 individuals or do they belong to just one person? Do non-family visitors like to leave their sunglasses here so they have a reason to come back over and visit?(George did that on Seinfeld...) Or is the Invisible Man going commando around our house and I don't know it? ( By the way, there is also a trench coat and hat in the laundry room that no one claims) These unclaimed sunglasses represent a history of items that take root in the "Lost and Found". I have yet to establish a time limit to store such items in fear that as soon as I give them to the DI, that's when someone will call and want them back. The mystery continues........

Only My Hairdresser Knows for Sure...

I got my roots done the other day, and my darling hairdresser Amanda asked me while putting the foils and goop in my hair "Have you finished painting your house? Because I don't see any paint in your hair this time!" I told her yes, for now, but lately I have been working on making a few new decorations for Christmas. Then, she paused and said "Yes, I can see that, I just found a bunch of glitter in your hair!" I thought of the old commercial that said " Only my hairdresser knows for sure" and then I remembered how at the last two massages I got, the masseuse asked me if I had been painting. I had paint on the back of my arms that I guess I couldn't see to scrub that well.
It came to mind that I am an open book. I do not lie (I am terrible at it, thank goodness) and my family tells me that I disclose way too much even when I am just meeting someone or even just chatting with a stranger in a line at the checkout counter. I am what I am and I am finally coming to accept and even like all the quirks about myself. That will have taken almost 50 years this April. It gives me comfort to know that I have a good more 30 or so years to improve bad habits and to acquire better ones, to become a more skilled artist, a more loving wife and mother, and a much better friend and extended family member. (God willing) THIS IS GOOD! These thoughts leave me hopeful and excited for the future, even with all the crummy stuff that happens on this world.
Anyway, I didn't start this post with sentiment and soul searching, it just happened. I guess I'd better copy this entry for my journal. (many silent thanks to my genealogy teacher, Bro.Comeau) THE GLITTER: I glittered tons of fake fruit, made fake candy and decorated all kinds of stuff for the kitchen. (I am a little worried about getting it all cleaned up, it's hard. Every time I think I'm finished cleaning, I look from a different angle and see glitter ALL OVER the kitchen.) Anyway, here is the village. It was a lot of fun to put together. I can see why people love making train city's and such. Maybe next year it will be bigger. The houses are all chipboard, painted and glittered. I used vinyl Spackle for the icing, and children's air dry clay for the candy. (Some of the candy is plastic that I bought.) I can't wait for the grand kids to see it. I am buying some small fences I saw at the store to give a more visual "please don't touch" feel to remind those kids to not eat anything.

BUMMER

Well, my husband just called to tell me that on the radio, "they", "the people" were talking about the song "Crank dat Soulja Boy". I guess that the song is really naughty and all the stanzas mean something different about you know what, s e x. I am sooooooooooo disappointed and mad. I am so tired of finding out that what someone is saying doesn't mean what they are saying and that you can not say anything either for fear of mistranslation! I remember watching a movie made in the late 50's and the phrase "making love" meant "flirting and dating". I still say that a thing is "queer" as in "strange" and don't even think about "queer" being "gay" which also was just being "happy" and who knows what being "happy" means anymore!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! AND I was just getting to know the fun "sweet" moves for this song ! ("sweet" as in "fun" not as in "sugary" .........)
