Our Rose Bowl Flea Market Adventure Weekend

I got home last night from a much needed "Girls Get-a-Way" tired but happy. My daughters Kelli and Chelsea along with Lindsey of the design blog Better After and I went to California to bask in the glory of the Rose Bowl Flea Market. We did not get to take my trailer this time so we could only purchase what could fit in Chelsea's mini van. In Pasadena the night before the "BIG DAY", we ATE. We sampled delectable cupcakes from "Dot's" and I had this yummy mini donut. I could go back now just for the extensive eatery options that Old Town Pasadena house.
Once we got to the Flea Market, It was a big change from the last adventure there that we experienced. Instead of record heat, we were a little cold and it sprinkled. It was LOVELY!!!

I really want to get this oven. I need to talk my husband into it.....

This was our stash. Chelsea got the "J" letters, Kelli the "H's" and I got the "S's". I also am thrilled at the fabulous find of this old peddle car/airplane! I'm going to put flowers in the old pails and the tool box will look good on the living room table. I can see it full of greenery for the holidays or a party. I needed to find prizes for my daughters who couldn't come so I found a "paint by numbers" painting for my daughter Brooke and I got some vintage earrings for my daughter Devan to use on her fabulous crystaled objects that she sells on etsy. (Get Stoned By Devan). I'm giving my daughter Hilari the big bracelet shown a few photos down...

We also found some FABULOUS petticoats. You never know when you will need one, so I was thrilled at this purchase! Kelli decided to do some victory celebration twirls while we were loading the car. Notice the empty parking lot. We were die hards that day.
Poor little Pearl just couldn't take the "excitement" any more. She was so good while being schlepped everywhere.
When we got to our second Motel, we were "happy" that it didn't stink like the first one the night before and that the toilet was "sanitized". I was surprised and delighted that they even sanitized the phone! (saving a few dollars isn't all its cracked up to be)
Then when I got into the car to go, I found my seat was "sanitized". Hey, wait a minute... LINDSEY!!!!
Then Monday we were off to the Fashion District in LA. We ventured into Santee Alley and I marveled at these lovelies...
I purchased these fab sandals for $18!

I also got some more bling. Yes, the big bracelet is for you Hilari. I know, I know, I am such a WONDERFUL mother. You can thank me later.

I also got this cool Lobster broach. I just love it!

We had a great time and found some fabulous treasures. Yeah for Flea Markets, they make life much more fun!

My Vanity...

I finally sort-of finished the vanity that I bought at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. I bought the mirror at the used hotel furniture place, and I screwed in some fab. knobs that I hung some vintage jewelry from.
I also bought some chair padding and black velvet and filled some old boxes with it to make some jewelry organizers.

Inside this drawer are some bracelet holders that I made by covering pieces of swimming toy float. After trimming it to fit into the drawers, I covered it with the black velvet. I secured the jewelry with hat pins...

My Fairy Filled Bird Cage...

So I finished putting my little glam-children fairies, flora and fauna into the old bird cage that I bought at the Rose Bowl Flea Market last month. It's cute, but doesn't have the "Wow" factor that I was hoping for. There are two little plastic birds that chirp when they "see" movement, but the sensor that detects it is under their bellies so it only works when you get down low to look in. I guess that's OK since it could get annoying for adults. I saw a frog that I wish now that I bought that "ribbits" at movement. I have to put that on my list...

Finally, a blog enty...

OK, now almost everyone of my daughters has called me to see if I was OK because I hadn't written a blog entry in a week! (cute of them to notice, and very nice of them to care...) Anyway, I have been absorbed in PROJECTS!!!! and none of them are finished enough to blog about. So let me give you a teaser. I made these fun little baby fairies for a centerpiece for a baby shower that my girls and I gave for my friend Sue's daughter Wendy last year. I am currently decorating the old bird cage that I bought at the Rose Bowl Flea Market last month with these baby fairies, flora, fauna and the "Jar Fairies" that I made of my grandchildren.
Aren't these babies riding on the "fauna" just FABULOUS ?!!! (if I do say so myself)

My Dolled Up Flea Market Basket

This week I have been sewing like a wild woman. When I set up my machine, I try to get a lot of projects done, as even though I have a "sewing room", there is really no room to sew in it. It is really a quest room where I store all my sewing stuff. I still sew in the kitchen like I used to at the other house. Anyway, I have wanted to line my basket to hold treasures found at Swap Meets for a long time, and now was the time to do it!
I used left over material from the bedding I made for our quest room. The cover is from a remnant from the curtains I made out of these wonderful tablecloths that I got for 90% off last year at Bed,Bath and Beyond. The table cloths where 120" long and the fabric is really nice. They worked out perfectly.

I used more tablecloth remnant to make this pocket to hold a memo pad and pencils, my notebook of measurements of my home's windows, rooms, etc. and of course the ever useful tape measure when I am on the hunt. Boy, I never would have imagined how useful the math skills that I learned in school would be in all the artsy/crafty things that you do in life. Yeah for math and remnants!!!

Rose Bowl Flea Market Adventure!

After a long day in the very HOT sun (we were there the one day a heat wave came through), anyway we started making a pile by the exit where the babies could have some shade. I'm so excited about this vanity!
Here are my girls starting to load up two sets of old lockers, an old two piece oak filing cabinet, a very cool birdcage, the bottom half of a mannequin, a crib for Kelli's new baby due in July, a rocker for baby Carma, and a ton of "good crap" that we couldn't resist.
another shot of our stuff....
Kelli watched the babies in the shade.
and we are all ready to go home. That old army trailer we have is the best! It pulls great and the back gate can be hung like a table for cooking when we go camping. I'm thinking of painting it red and painting "Red Rider" on it like the Howe family did. I'm getting tired of the "giraffe" spots that were supposed to be leopard spots that I painted 15 years ago. This weekend was a FABULOUS girls trip for my daughters and I. FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!!
